Unsuccessful effort

An individual wrote,

“Before falling into a sinful act I try my best to avoid it by using my determination and supplicating to Allah for help. However, if God-forbid, the sin is committed I have this disheartening feeling that all the effort done to avoid the sin was wasted.”

Hadhrat Mawlana Mohammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) replied,

“Supplications are never wasted. The feeling of remorse and repentance being felt after the mistake is its effect. No one knows what reward this feeling of guilt and penitence may bring?

Therefore, neither be disheartened nor abandon the effort and supplication.

However, this is the time to renew the determination (to avoid sinful) and make prayers for being steadfast in doing so.

When a clothing is soiled we wash it. However, if it is again soiled, even after extreme care not to do so, will we abandon the cleaning thinking that this is a wasteful activity?”

Thankfulness

shakartum1.jpg

‘Arif billah Hadhrat Dr. Abdul Hayy ‘Arifi (may Allah have mercy on him) said,

“Being thankful to Allah for any of the blessings is like investing in an insurance policy. That is, the principle amount invested remains safe and moreover it increases over time.”

What is thankfulness?

Acknowledging that,

1. This blessing is from Allah.

2. Allah has provided it to me without me being eliglible(musteheq) for it.

3. Allah has the power to remove it from me any time and without any reason.

Realization of these leads to utilization of this blessing in being more obidient to Allah and not using it to displease Him. Without this realization it is only superficial verbal thankfulness and not the real required praise-worthy moral.

Event:Completion of Sahih Bukhari

The completion of Sahih Bukhari marks the end of the final academic year at Islamic schools in Pakistan-India. This occassion has been revered by our pious elders and is well known for acceptance of prayers (dua).

One of these gatherings will be, inshaAllah held at Darul Uloom Karachi mosque on Sunday, 5th August 2007 at 10.00AM. It is planned to be a simple and low profile event. Arrangements are only for men.

May Allah give us the barakah of this event. Ameen!.

Stop indulging in sin!

For treatment of most of the spiritual maladies Hadhrat Nawab Eshrat ‘Ali Khan Qaiser (may Allah preserve him) usually recommends,

“To make an intentional effort in suppressing the desire of indulging in sin using one’s determination and abstaining from it completely.”

If a seeker does not do this, that is, make an intentional effort using his determination all other things (dhikr, shugal, etc.) will fail. Therefore, this enforcement of one’s determination and volition, which is the real treatment, should never be abandoned in hope of acquiring some magic remedy that will cause us to stop sinning by itself without making any effort at all on our part. (Because this is impossible).

This is the essential (fardh) struggle (mujahida) for a seeker!

We Muslims!

Hadhrat Mawlana Mufti Mohammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) said,

“One should clearly distinguish between the Islamic teachings and the general practice of the Muslims. Unfortunately, we are living in an age where the vast majority of the Muslims are not aware of the noble teachings of Islam nor do they practice them in their day-to-day lives. Instead, they are mostly influenced by the different cultures in which they are/have been living. Therefore, everything the Muslims practice cannot be attributed to Islam. When one evaluates the virtues of Islam, he should not refer to the practice of the Muslims of today; rather he should turn to the principles laid down in the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah. Obviously, if the Muslims have abandoned the guidance of the Shari’ah, it cannot be seen as a defect in the Shari’ah itself. It is a defect in those who have deprived themselves of this Divine Guidance.”
