Condolence: Prophet’s letter (Allah’s blessings & peace be upon him)

IMG_3364.GIF

“In the name of Allah, Most Kind, Most Merciful.

From Muhammad, Allah’s Messenger to Mu’az- Ibn-Jabal.

May the peace of Allah be on you.
l praise Allah before you,the One besides whom there is none worthy of worship.

After praising and glorifying Allah, (I say the following.) May Allah give you great reward and may He guide you to exercise patient endurance. And may He (also) guide us and you to be grateful to Him.

Surely, our souls, wealth and families are wonderful gifts from Allah. He has loaned them to us so that we may take benefit from them for a set period; and he takes them away after completion of that period.

Thus, gratitude becomes binding on us when He gives, and patience becomes obligatory when He takes away.

Your son was also from among the wonderful gifts (of Allah) and a loan (from Him). Allah enabled you to enjoy him in a way that was both enviable (to others) and pleasing (to you); and now, in return for great reward, mercy and forgiveness He has taken him away from you. Provided that you exercise patience. So do exercise patience and do not let your bewailing and complaining destroy your reward, for you will be sorry (if this happens).

Know that bewailing and complaining neither brings back anything nor does it repel grief and sorrow.

And whatever is to happen is set to happen. And it has occurred.

Peace be upon you.’

Hakim al Umma’s ‘amama

IMG_3274.PNG

‘In winter most of the time he wears a turban (‘amama). In summer it is only at the time of leading the prayers that he wears it. An ‘amama for this purpose is kept hanging in the mosque.

The type of turban he wears is with silk embroidery and is usually white mulmul (cotton) or stripped (doriya).’

Fasts in al-Muharram

Masjid Nabawi SAW - 7

The blessed Companion Hazrat Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported that he (the Messenger of Allah – Allah bless him and grant him peace) was asked as to which prayer was most excellent after the prescribed prayer, and which fast was most excellent after the month of Ramadan. He said:
“The most excellent fast after Ramadan is God’s month. al-Muharram, and the most excellent prayer after what is prescribed is prayer during the night.”

In Radd al-Muhtar it states:
“The totality of excuses which has passed in the text and commentary are twenty which I versified in my saying:

The excuses of leaving out jamā‘ah are twenty which indeed I have inserted in the arrangement of verses like pearls:
Sickness, infirmity, blindness, being crippled
Rain, muddy ground then coldness that causes harm, Amputation of a leg with a hand or within them
Paralysis, an old man’s weakness and the intention to travel,
Fear of wealth, likewise of an oppressor
Or creditor, and desire to eat food that is present,
Wind at night, darkness, nursing a person with Sickness, the compulsion of urine or faeces,
Then, occupation with nothing besides knowledge
in Some situations is an excuse that is considered.” (1:581)

What to look for in a Shaikh?

IMG_0804.PNG

Hakim al Umma Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Allah have mercy on him) said,

‘The thing to look for in a pious individual (Shaikh) is the proportion of his share in following the example (itiba-e-Sunna) of our master Prophet (Allah have mercy on him).

Anecdotes of unveiling (makashifat) etcetera are all tales of mesmerism. They are are subservient to thinking powers (i.e. Influencing and manipulating another individual’s thought).

The real thing is the degree of following the example of our master Prophet (Allah have mercy on him).

(However) This compatibility (munasebet) with him (our master Prophet (Allah have mercy on him) must be spontaneous and persistent. This is because for a couple of days everyone can feign (to follow).’

Eid Mubarak: The real Joy!

The Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,

“On the day of eid (when people gather to offer eid prayers)
Allah says to the Angels,
‘Have these people fulfilled the obligation (of fasting)
and are now gathered for prayers?

I swear by My pride, magnificence, majesty, mercy and elevated status that I will fulfill their prayers.

Tell them to return,
I have forgiven them all
and furthermore
I have replaced their sins with virtuous deeds.

Hence they return completely forgiven.

(Mishkat/Bahaiqi)

On our eid visit to Sayyidi wa sanadi Mawlana Mohammad Taqi Usmani (Allah preserve him) we always found him to be extremely happy and cheerful, repeatedly telling usArifbillah Dr Abdul Hayy Arifi (Allah have mercy on him)’s saying regarding Eidul fitr

“We are excessively blessed individuals today.

All our sins have been forgiven.

They have been bartered with good deeds.

We are completely clean and tidy.”

An unimaginable joy!

Hadhrat Ubaadah bin Saamit (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) used to teach the Sahaabah (Radi Allahu Anhum) the following Dua at the approach of the Month of Ramadhaan:

اَللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْنِيْ لِرَمَضَانَ وَسَلِّمْ رَمَضَانَ لِيْ وَسَلِّمْهُ لِيْ مُتَقَبَّلاً

Allahumma Sallimnee Liramadaana Wa Sallim Ramadaana Lee Wa Sallimhu li Mutaqabbila

“O Allah! Safeguard me for the Month of Ramadhaan (by making me see the Month of Ramadhaan healthy and fit so that I can take maximum benefit from it), and safeguard the Month of Ramadhaan for me (by making the conditions in it such that I can take maximum benefit from it) and accept it from me.” (Kanz-ul-ummal, Vol.8, Pg. 584 Hadith 24277)

Every Muslim should endeavor to memorize this dua and recite it in abundance in these few days before Ramadhaan.

The higher optimism (raja) he has while making supplication the greater the acceptance rate.’

Tip for acquiring humility

20140329-120141.jpg

Replying to a seeker’s inquiries about treatment of arrogance Hakim al Umma Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Allah mercy on him) said,

‘In the end I mention a protracted regimen for treatment (of arrogance). The other ones mentioned (earlier) are time limited (to the moment when the thought of arrogance comes to mind). Due to this reason their effect is not ingrained (in one’s morals). Except in rare cases.

The novice needs this treatment regimen for a protracted period of time. Until humility is well ingrained (in his morals).

It is to deliberately adopt the culture, style and conduct of the less privileged individuals (of the society).

However, be careful not to adopt the lowest level of these things in order to avoid becoming famous for (extreme) humility.’
