Never be negligent

The very first advice sayyidi wa sanadi Hadhrat Mawlana Mohammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) gave to a murid while giving him permission to instruct others,

“Never be negligent of your own self’s reformation (islah) effort.”

Hedayat bara-ay mujazeen

That is, the first and foremost in importance is my own self-reformation. Do not be missed led by Shaytan and nafs that I have graduated and now my primary concern is to do reformation of others.

This is a very common mistake.

Readers of the biographies of piously elders are well aware of the fact that how deligent they were in keeping their own self on tract. At the slightests indication of a slip they would jump and make amendments.

May Allah give us the tawfiq to do this also. Amin!

TV & VCR/DVD

Giving instructions to a newly appointed mujaz Hadhrat Dr. Ismail Memon (may Allah preserve him) said,

‘In the Prophetic sayings ingestion of intoxicating beverages has been pointed out to be the source of all the sins (umm al-khabayis), similar is the status of viewing television and video cassette recordings (VCR and these days DVDs). They are the root cause of most of the immoral actions (abb ul-munkerat).

Refrain from them completely.

Many individuals fail intellectually to recognize the evil effects of these things.

Even if one does not understand, it is essential to abstain from them.”

Safeguarding dunya & deen!

In the instructions posted for those living in his khanqah, Hadhrat Mawlana Wasiullah (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote,

“Everyone is responsible for the protection of his belongings.

If something is stolen, then both the individual who’s stuff it is and the thief will be expelled from the khanqah.

The expulsion of the aggrieved is because a person who is incapable of protecting his personal effects how is he expected to safeguard his religion.”

Hayyat e Musleh al-Umma ra, 129

Recitation for the removal of hardship!

An individual informed of the hardships he was facing. He was afraid of losing his means of sustenance and professional integrity.

‘Arif-billahHadhrat Dr. Abdul Hayy ‘Arifi (may Allah have mercy on him) instructed him to recite the following 200 times daily after ‘eisha salah pre- and post-ceded by salutations (durood) on the Holy Prophet (Allah’s blessing and peace be upon him) 11 times,

لا حول ولاقوة إلا بالله

(There is no power or strength except with Allah)

Islahi khutoot.

It is most beneficial to contemplate on the meanings of it during the recitation.

Becoming a murid?

A sister asked,

“Can I become a murida of Shaikh Hazrat Taqi Usmani sahib? I was previously a murida of Shaikh Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (may Allah have mercy on him) from India.”

All praise is to Allah, as per the teachings of sayyidi wa sanadi Hadhrat Mawlana Mohammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) following reply was sent,

‘It is a great blessing of Allah that you are a muridah of Hadhrat Ali mian (may Allah have mercy on him).

I pray and hope that you are continuing with what Hadhrat told you to do, such as remembrance(tasbihat, dhikr), recitation of Holy Quran (tilawat), reading (mutala’), etc.

As a basic rule, it is most beneficial that after the passing away of his Shaykh the murid associates with Shaykh’s senior representatives (khulafa) to continue the journey on the same track without any interruptions.

However, if due to unavoidable circumstances you can not contact any of those khulafa then you can correspond with sayyidi wa sanadi Hadhrat Mawlana Mohammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) for self-reformation (islah) and bayiat.

Sayyidi’s khalifa in Iran

Mawlana Abdulwahid Qalandarzahi (may Allah protect him) is a khalifa of Sayyidi wa sanadi Hadhrat Mawlana Mohammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him).

He is a teacher at madersa e deeni Jamia Islamiya Suran, Baluchistan, Iran

MashaAllah, he is well conversant in Urdu, Arabic and Persian.

May Allah bless him, give him a long and healthy life, and  make him a source of guidance for many. Amin!

Darul Uloom is a khanqah these days!

All praise is for Allah, Most High.
These days Dar ul Uloom, Karachi is a spiritual lodge (khanqah/zawiya).
Spiritual aspirants from various places around the world have flocked together to avail the blessings of Ramadhan in the blissful company of their Shaykh.

Almost two hundred individuals are performing the sunna seclusion (e’itikaf) in Dar ul Uloom’s mosque.

Sayyidi wa sanadi
Hadhrat Mawlana Mohammad Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) holds a daily session after zuhar prayers for the spiritual aspirants. These discourses are providing the essential knowledge of tasawwuf for the seekers. The reality of sincerity (ikhlas), presence of mind/heart in worship(khushu’), and the method of tazikiya are some of the topics that have been discussed so far.

Thereafter, muridin gather in his office to be in his blessed company till the asr prayers. There they listen to the advise, observe the attitude and absorb the spiritual states of their Shaykh. MashaAllah!

May Allah make this beneficial for all of us. And, inshaAllah, this supplication be accepted

Amin!

How to do esal e thawab?

Hadhrat Haji Mohammad Sharif khalifa of Hakim al-Umma (may Allah have mercy on them) wrote in his wasiyet (will),

“Never arrange a gathering for my esal e thawab, neither purposefully nor on ad hoc basis. Every person who desires to do so can do it individually by supplications, giving charity or performing supererogatory (nafil) worship. At the least recite sura ikhlas thrice and forward its reward. InshaAllah, this action will be very beneficial to their own selves also.”

Musaferan e akhirat, page 27

Conditions for esal e thawab

In the earlier part of his life Hakim al-Umma Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanawi (may Allah have mercy on him) used to teach at the Islamic seminary (darul uloom) in Kanpur.

One day students entered the class to find him sitting there obliviously very sad. The signs of melancholy and sorrow were clearly evident on his face. The students were concerned and respectfully inquired what was the reason for this unusual demeanor. Hakim al-Umma informed them that he had just received the news of demise of his eldest sister. Students felt sad and requested him to postpone teaching session for that day. Hakim al Umma told them that he had come to teach as usual. However, seeing the sadness of their teacher students insisted and requested that instead of the usual daily class they wanted to recite the Holy Quran and forward its reward to the deceased muslimah. After much insistence Hakim al-Umma accepted their plea on three conditions,

Firstly, they would not recite the Holy Quran sitting together. It will be done individually and in private.

Secondly, every participant was to recite whatever amount was possible for him with ease. Half or quarter juz (section) or even sura iklas (chapter112) three time would be fine.

Thirdly, after recitation no one should inform how much he recited.

Hakim al-Umma enforced these conditions to ensure absolute sincerity in the recitation. It is well established that the reward of good deed is based on the sincerity (ikhlas) with which it is done. Actions devoid of sincerity are worthless and there is no benefit in forwarding its reward to others.

Issue like social coercing, show-off and undue hardship on those involved essentially destroys the sincerity altogether.

How to recite the daily tasbihat? Part 2

tasbih21.jpg

Mawlana Abdur-Rauf Sukkharvi (may Allah preserve him) continues,

Then proceed to the recitation of blessings and salutation (darood) on the Holy Prophet.

Refresh your intention,
O Allah! I am the most lowly individual in the followers (Ummah) of the Holy Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace).

Prophet’s favors on me are innumerable.

It is essential (wajib) for me to love him.

Hence, in order to fulfill the obligations of this love and to further increase it in my heart I recite these salutations.

Then with full concentration recite the durood,

اللهم صل على سيدنا محمد ن النبى الامى

 و على اله و اصحابه و بارك و سلم

قلب کا جاری ہونا

heart1.gif
