Things that soften the hard-heart

20130420-201848.jpg

Imam al Qurtubi (Allah have mercy on him) said,

Understand it very clearly that following things soften the worst hardened hearts,
1. Visiting the graves
2. Listening to the discourses of pious scholars
3. Reading about the past obedient ascetics and scholars
4. Remembrance of that which will uproot all pleasures, ward off all desires, separate one from others, make existence detestable, and orphan the children who were adored by their parents. That is, death.’

Nashru-Teyb

20130112-215653.jpg

Shaikh Mansur Ali Khan (Allah preserve him) said,

‘All praise is for Allah.
Some of the things that my Shaikh Arif billah Dr Abdul Hayy Arifi (Allah have mercy on him) instructed me to do have become an essential part of my every day routine (that is for more than 35 or 40 years now).

This includes reading from the book Nashru-Teyb.

Shaikh Arifi instructed me that after the daily recitation of Holy Quran read a page or two from this book.’

nashar-ut-teeb

This book is about our master Prophet Mohammed (Allah bless him and grant him peace). Hakim al Ummah Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanawi (Allah have mercy on him) compiled it in special state of Prophet’s love and yearning. A sincere reader benefits immensely from it spiritually.

Reward of affliction

sabr

Narrated by our master Jabir ibn Abdullah (Allah be pleased with him),

Allah’s Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said,

“On the Day of Resurrection, when people who have suffered affliction are given their reward, those who are healthy will wish their skins had been cut to pieces with scissors when they were in the world.”

Tirmidhi Hadith #1570

The extreme loss of Ummah

baraka-light-5

Our master Abdullah ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) narrates,

Allah’s Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said, “If any member of my people has two children who die before him, Allah will cause him to enter Paradise on their account.”

(Our mother) Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) asked, “Does it apply to a member of your people who has one child who dies before him?”  He replied, “It does, you who have been helped by Allah to ask this.”

She then asked, “What about a member of your people who has no children who die before him?”  He replied, “I am the one who dies before my people, and they will never suffer any loss to compare with the loss of me.”

The house of praise

20121222-214724.jpg

Our master AbuMusa al-Ash’ari (Allah be pleased with him) narrates,

Allah’s Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said,

When a man’s child dies,

Allah Most High asks His angels whether they have taken His servant’s child and they reply that they have.

He then asks whether they have taken the fruit of his heart, and when they reply that they have, He asks what His servant said.

On their replying that he praised Allah and said,

“We belong to Allah and to Him do we return,”

Allah says, “Build a house in Paradise for my servant and call it the house of praise.”

Perimeters of grief

20121221-114057.jpg

Shaikh Mohammad Kaleem (Allah preserve him) a senior khalifa of Arif billah Dr Abdul Hayy Arifi (Allah have mercy on him) said to a brother who lost his twenty three year old son suddenly,

‘Your crying and grief on this loss is all right. Actually it is right of the departed relative(‘s love).

In spite of the right of Allah to do whatsoever in His creation He knew that they are weak and wavering human beings so three days of mourning was allowed. During these three days observe mourning, accept and acknowledge condolence.

After these three days do not mourn more on purpose and intention.

However, it is quite fine if his thoughts come to you unintentionally or he is discussed in usual everyday conversation. Each time this happens recite with contemplation (as mentioned earlier)

أنا لله و أنا اليه راجعون

This will bring the same immense reward for patience done initially. Doing this repeatedly will create a vicious cycle of patience and its reward. A continuous and immense reward indeed.’

Islamic dress

Shaikh Haji Shakeel Ahmad (Allah preserve him) had just returned from the blessed Masjid al-Haraam after performing tawaf e wida. He greeted us with a radiant smiling face. Walking independently he appeared handsome in the black kurta and showed no signs (mashaAllah) of any illness at all.

The humility, love and kindness overflowed as the audience benefited spiritually from his words.

Haji sahib said,

‘I observed that the young men who approached me for islah started wearing the simple white  kurta and khanqahi topi. They were trying to copy their Shaikh.

I questioned them about this change. Who had instructed them to do so?

Moreover, I inquired about the opinion of their wives and other household members regarding this change.

They answered that we are labeled as bhaiya (slang for resident of UP) and mawlavi.

I took them personally to a tailor and asked him to make kurta for them in styles and colors (even mix and match) in trend these days for their age group.

Personally I always preferred to wear white clothes in accordance with the Sunna. However, to reinforce the message for young men and show them practically that it is permissible, now I also wear colored kurta.

In fact, few people in Bombay joke about Haji Shakeel’s dashing kurta(s).’

Tahajjud prayers

The reviver of Sunna Shaikh Mawlana Abrarul Haqq (Allah have mercy on him) said,

‘The tahajjud salah in itself has the property to make an individual righteous, pious and a friend (wali) of Allah.’

‘There are some medicines that have the property of working both at preventing the disease (prophylaxis) and eradicating it (treatment). Similar is the case of tahajjud. It  eradicates the sinful deeds and nurtures the resistance for indulgence in sinful.’

Ma’arif al Abrar ra, page 238

Hajj = Supplications

The reviver of Sunna Shaikh Mawlana Abrarul Haqq (Allah have mercy on him) said,

‘Be vigilant in making supplications (dua) at Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifa.

Supplicate excessively. Cry. If you can not cry then make facial expressions of a crying individual.

Learn to ask from children. How they ask for a thing repeatedly and eventually succeed. Learn it from the beggars who plead with tongue and their poor state. They have learned the art of asking. They are confident and content on their asking skills. Whereas, in reality asking from other fellowmen without a genuine reason is a fault.

But asking from Allah is a sign of submission and servitude. And not supplicating to Him is a fault.

So keep knocking on the door. Do not give up.

كھولیں وہ یا نہ كھولیں در، اس پہ ھو كیوں تیری نظر

تو تو بس اپنا كام كر، یعنی صدا لگاے جا

It is in biography of some of the pious predecessors that in Arafat they continuously made supplications from the zawal till sunset.

This is extremely precious time period. Do not waste it.’

Hajj

The Prophet (Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever performs Hajj for the sake of pleasing Allah and therein neither utters any evil words nor commits any evil deed, he will emerge from it free from sin as the day on which his mother gave birth to him.’
